Ms Alemu is liaison to the African Union and UNECA. She functions as the technical focal person of UN’s Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) Clusters including, the Peace and Security Cluster, Gender and Development Sub-cluster and UN Liaison Team. She also provides coordination support between UN Women regional and country offices and the AU, UN system, RECs, women’s rights networks and development partners. Amongst others, her responsibilities include providing strategic leadership as a member of UN Women Ethiopia senior management team, engage in relevant policy debates, providing technical inputs in the formulation of regional policies and developing and managing regional level advocacy, knowledge generation and communication programs and projects.
Prior to that, she served as a public servant in the judiciary leveraged on the experience to pursue a career in a local women’s organization as a legal and human rights trainer and advocate for the adoption and implementation of laws and policies for gender equality in Ethiopia.
She believes the masters programme will equip her with the knowledge and tools that can help her become a public policy thought leader and practitioner.
