Senior Legal Advisor - South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC)
Highest qualification: LLB - Bachelor of Law (4-year honours equivalent degree)
Mrs Berhadien is an attorney with Right of Appearance in the High Court. She currently works as a senior legal advisor in the South African Medical Research Council. Her responsibilities include negotiating, drafting, vetting and amending contracts; legal research in order to provide legal advice and written legal opinions to Management; structuring legal advice to enable the business to accomplish its strategic objectives; monitoring public policy and legislative developments relevant to the SAMRC and engaging policy developers and enforcement / regulatory agencies; developing SAMRC internal policy approach protocol / precedents / frameworks and providing guidance and direction to business units to ensure legislative compliance.
Her early work as a candidate attorney stated at Legal Aid South Africa - Cape Town Justice Centre (Atlantis Court) and Gustav W Cook Incorporated Attorneys.
She has also worked as a State Law advisor in the Western Cape Government - Department of the Premier, where she ensured that provincial government decision making is legally sound. Prior to that, she was a Public Prosecutor (relief staff - Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court Cluster) for the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa.
She believes the master's programme will broaden her skills set in strategic leadership and policy development.
